Hello, my friends! I am so excited as today I am a Guest Designer for Global Design Project. How amazing is that?! I’m so humbled and honoured that GDP team has chosen me to join them for this week’s Colour Challenge. And boy, what a great colours we have to play with!

Choose your fav three wasn’t an option for me because I love all of these and wouldn’t know which to choose, to be honest. So I decided to be a rebel and for my project today I’ve used all five. Let’s say this post is a farewell to these beautiful In Colours.

Colourful Striped Background card dimensions:

  • Mint Macaron cardstock: 11-6/8″ x 4-1/8″ scored in half at 5-7/8″ (29.7 x 10.5 cm scored in half at 14.8 cm)
  • Very Vanilla cardstock: two panels, one for the card front, one for the inside of the card 5-7/8″ x 4″ (14.8 cm x 10.2 cm) each
  • cardstock for building the background: 5-7/8″ x 3-1/2″ (14.8 cm x 8.9 cm)
  • scraps of cardstock in colours: Mint Macaron, Delightful Dijon, Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush and Tip Top Taupe
  • White Vellum for stamping and die-cutting

I started my card by creating this fun and colourful striped background. I took my scraps of cardstock of 2015-2017 In Colours and I cut it into strips of different widths. Next, I took a piece of cardstock (random colour as it won’t be seen anyway), covered it in glue,  using snail adhesive, and adhered my strips diagonally, mixing colours and widths, making sure there’s no space left in-between the strips. When the whole panel was covered, I trimmed any overhanging stripes.

Can you see the shimmer on this panel? I took empty spritzer bottle and fill it with water. Next, I took Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush and squeezed pretty few drops of it into the spritzer. I shake it really well, spritz my entire panel with this glittery mist and let it dry.

I took the Very Vanilla panel and die-cut this intricate butterfly from Butterflies Framelits Dies in the middle of it. I also die-cut solid butterfly from vellum using Bold Butterfly Framelit Dies.

Using t-ruler, I draw two diagonal (and parallel) lines at the back of my panel. Using these lines as guides, I cut my panel into three and discarded the middle piece. Next, I stamped this lovely chicken wire (kinda) pattern from Butterfly Basics Stamp Set all over the other two pieces. I stamped it in Mint Macaron and to create this faded look I stamp off twice before I stamped on the cardstock.

I adhered my Very Vanilla pieces to the background panel, with butterflies inlaid between them: vellum butterfly at the bottom and vanilla one on the top, and added the whole panel to the card base with liquid adhesive.

For the sentiment, I chose “Sending Wishes Your Way”, also from Butterfly Basics Stamp Set. I prepared vellum with embossing buddy, dabbed my stamp in Versamark and straight away in Basic Black Archival ink, and stamped it onto vellum. Sprinkled it with clear embossing powder and heat set it.  Adhered it to the card with few tiny drops of Fine-Tip Glue Pen. All that’s left was to add second Very Vanilla panel inside of the card. Done!

This week sketch was designed by our lovely Mandy and it is…anything goes. I know! A nice little warm-up for us – thank you, Mandy.

I know you see more and more holidays related projects lately. But I decided to keep the warm summer days for a little bit longer. And what says ‘summer’ more than blue skies and butterflies?

This is a birthday card for sweet ‘sixteen’ who loves blue. The base of my card is Marina Mist cardstock, standard A6 size. The first panel is a piece of Color Me Irresistible Specialty DSP that measures 5-5/8″x 3-7/8″. I chose to use white, embossed woodgrain pattern and gently sponged Marina Mist over my piece and adhere it to the base. Next, I cut a strip of Marina Mist cardstock, 1″ wide, and stamped little roses from Number Of Years Stamp Set all over the piece and adhere it across the sponged panel.

I die-cut two circles: large one from Whisper White ( I pierced it around the edge) and smaller one again from Color Me Irresistible Specialty DSP. I sponged this smaller one with Marina Mist. But this time, I’ve added lots of ink for really deep shade. I adhered smaller circle on top of the large one, off-setting it.

I stamped butterfly from Butterfly Basics on a piece of Whisper White in Marina Mist and die cut it using coordinating die. I also die cut larger, detailed butterfly from vellum, using the same die set. Next, I attached small butterfly on top of detailed one, with Silver Metallic Thread in between. I adhered them both to the circles using glue dots and attached the whole piece to the card base, off-setting it to the left.

I stamped numbers 1 and 6, from Number of Years Stamp Set, in Marina Mist of course, and die-cut it with coordinating dies (I love this set!!!). Next, I stamped banner and word ‘birthday’ inside of the banner and die-cut it. For the word ‘happy’ I had to adjust it a little bit, and with help of masking, and partial die-cutting, I was able to create matching smaller banner. I attached the numbers and banners to the card base using dimensionals.

There’s no such a thing as bling-free teenage girl card, right? So my finish touch was to add a gentle shimmer to the butterfly, circle, and numbers with Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. I think it’s my first card ever where I’ve used one ink pad colour only. And to be honest I really like this monochromatic look.

Shadowhunters Fangirl Birthday Card using Stampin’ Up! Products

Sharing something a little different with you today. I’m so happy I finally had some spare time to post this awesome card (if I do say so myself).

My (not so little anymore) girl had her 16th birthday last Sunday. And because she’s a big fan of Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters book series, I really wanted to create something in that theme for her.

Obviously, I don’t own any matching stamp sets so I had to improvise. I’ve used pretty few current stamp sets to create my card. First I choose black & gold colour combo – I think it fits the theme perfectly. It’s a gate-fold card, with base in Basic Black. I “brushed” Versamark around the edges, added gold embossing powder and heat set it. I didn’t go for perfection – it was meant to be a bit edgy, rough. Next, I cut two panels to go on the front. Using Versamark again, I stamped flourishes from Everything Eleanor stamp set, and heat embossed it in gold. As before, I didn’t pay attention to detail on purpose – the edgier the better.

Inside of the card is pretty simple. I’ve found Angelic Rune symbol online, printed it on copy paper and then traced it on a piece of basic black. I hand-cut it and heat embossed it with Iridescent Ice embossing folder first. But I didn’t like how this turned out and decided to add more sparkle to it. I dabbed Versamark on top of my symbol and added  Heat & Stick powder. I melt the powder with Heat Tool, covered it with gold glitter and heat set my piece again. I love how this turned out. Sentiment comes from Rose Wonder stamp set.

To close my card I created a belly-band. Same as with a card front I added that rough gold edge. I stamped small butterfly from Butterfly Basics, heat embossed it in gold and die-cut it. I also die-cut the more intricate butterfly from gold glimmer paper. I adhered them together, added some gold Metallic Thread underneath and attached it to my belly-band.

And that’s it. That’s my Shadowhunters birthday card. Do you like it? I have to say that my daughter truly loved it. And the moment she opened the card and saw the Angelic Rune symbol – well, that was priceless to see how her eyes light up. Mission completed!

New Butterfly Basics Stamp Set and Framelits by Stampin’ Up!

Oh, so happy I finally get to play with some new products: Butterfly Basics stamp set and coordinating thinlits.The cards I’ve made today are bit edgy because I really like a slightly distressed look. Backgrounds for all cards are sponged using different shades of green. For some of those cards, I’ve used colour resist technique. I’ve stamped leaves with Versamark and then heat embossed them with clear embossing powder.

With second card I also stamped leaves with Versamark but this time I didn’t heat-emboss it. As you can see Versamark resist colour even if it’s not embossed, but the effect is more gentle. The only layer in this card is a butterfly 🙂

Some leaves have been also stamped off first to get a lighter shade. Filigree honeycomb-kind-of image and little circle are stamped in Hello Honey.

To add some interest to the cards I’ve stamped some “splatters” from Gorgeous Grunge (Hello Honey again)

I just love this sentiment! So versatile. You can use it for thank you cards, birthdays, scrapbook pages, decorations, frames, shadowboxes, etc

For a final touch, I’ve added some beautiful sequins from In Color Sequin Assortment. Easy yet effective 🙂

 Last two cards are mounted on black base. I just couldn’t decide which one I like the most: white, black or none 🙂 And which one is your favourite?
