Using Watercolour Pencils As On-the-go Paint

Anna’ Stampin’ Cave – Mother’s Day Card plus using watercolour pencils as on-the-go paint

Hello everyone! Thank you for stopping by my blog today!

I wanted to share with you this super cute and cheerful card I created for my husband to give to his mum for Mother’s Day (polish Mother’s Day is on 26 May). She’s visiting the UK (my hubby’s sister and us) and has been here nearly a month. But she is heading back home tomorrow afternoon so it was like perfect timing.

What’s special about this card is the technique I’ve used to colour in my focal point image. But first thing first, here’s my card:

Anna' Stampin' Cave - Mother's Day card using watercolour pencils and Just Because Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

Mother’s Day card dimensions:

  • Granny Apple Green cardstock: 11″ x 4-1/8″ scored at 5-1/2″ (28 x 10.5 cm scored at 14 cm)
  • Whisper White cardstock: 3-3/8″ x 4-1/2″ (8.5 cm x 11.6 cm)
  • Whisper White cardstock for the inside: 4″ x 5-1/8″ (9.6 cm x 13 cm)
  • Subtles Designer Series Paper in Calypso Coral: 3″ x 5″ (7.6 cm x 12.7 cm)
  • Calypso Coral cardstock for the sentiment
  • Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Double-Stitched Ribbon approx. 4″ (10.3 cm)

Using watercolour pencils as on-the-go paint

First thing I did I masked off the original sentiment and stamped the image onto Whisper White panel. Next, I stamped this very same image onto a watercolour paper and coloured it roughly with Watercolour Pencils.

Anna' Stampin' Cave - Mother's Day Card plus using watercolour pencils as on-the-go paintFirst, I coloured my image, very roughly, with watercolour pencils, leaving some empty space on the flower pot for highlights.

Anna' Stampin' Cave - Mother's Day Card plus using watercolour pencils as on-the-go paintNext, using an aqua painter I brush it with water. I did it slowly, with a brush that was hardly wet, one area at a time, making sure I don’t over-mix all of the colours used.

Anna' Stampin' Cave - Mother's Day Card plus using watercolour pencils as on-the-go paintTo intensify some colours, I rubbed my aqua painter’s brush directly against the tip of the pencil, before adding the pigment to a designated area.

It was time-consuming but well worth the effort.

Under construction

This card, even if for some looks complicated, was very straightforward to make.

I started by adding a Whisper White panel to the inside of my card so hubby could later jolt in some heartfelt Mother’s Day wishes.

Next, I adhered a piece of DSP to the card front, slightly to the left. I took my stamped Whisper White panel and punched out two semi-circles at the very bottom of the panel, to add the ribbon. Once the ribbon was secured, I popped it to the card front with dimensionals.

Using a second smallest circle die from Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies, I die cut a circle from my watercolour piece and add it with dimensionals to the card front where it “belonged”.

On a scrap of Calypso Coral cardstock, I stamped the “happy mother’s day” sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings. I trimmed it into a narrow strip and added it flush to the top right corner of the front Whisper White panel.

Few, more or less randomly added rhinestones finish off the look.

I am delighted how this card turned out: such a happy and cheerful little make!! And I really hope my mother-in-law will love it too.

Anna' Stampin' Cave - Mother's Day Fun Fold Split Card using Amazing You Stamp Set, Apron of Love Stamp Set & Springtime Foils Specialty DSP from Stampin' Up!I die-cut it using a 2nd largest circle die from Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. For the inside panel, I stamped the ‘burst’ image from Amazing You Stamp Set in Powder Pink ink. I placed it behind the focal point so you can’t see it when the card is closed. The sentiment is stamped in Memento Black ink.

The sentiment on the front of the card says ‘amazing mum’. The word ‘amazing’ come from the same ‘Amazing You Stamp Set. I stamped it in Versamark ink and heat embossed in gold. Next, I stamped ‘Mum’ from Apron of Love Stamp Set, and also heat embossed it in gold.

Happy Mother’s Day! ‘Mum’s Love’ Says It All

I wanted to wish Happy Mother’s Day to my all UK and Irish followers! Today I’ve been treated with coffee and breakfast to bed ^_^ Feel so pampered 🙂 hmmm…makes me think that Mother’s Day should be every day! 😀 And today I’ve got one more project using Mum’s Love stamp set.

mums love 7

To make this card I’ve used same card stock as yesterday: Strawberry Slush and Whisper White. And you probably wondering what about the brown?

mums love 9

Well, I simply coloured WW with Chocolate Chip ink pad 🙂 Just cut strip of paper, press it into your ink pad and then let it dry. I used this colour to stamp sentiments and flowers too. These little flowers on the front are punched using flower punch from Itty Bitty Accents punch pack. Each one has a tiny rhinestone in the center.

mums love

For the front panel I cut a piece of  Window Sheet and embossed it with Filigree Frame embossing folder (it was available in autumn/winter catty).

mums love 5

I loooove dry emboss window sheets 🙂 It’s looks gorgeous and adds extra dimension to the card.

mums love 8

I love this stamp set and really think it’s a “must have”. I owe the one in photopolymer but you can choose clear or wood mount too.

Thank you for stopping by and have an amazing day everyone!

Mother’s Day Card using “Mum’s Love” Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up!

Mother’s Day – a day to show love to all wonderful mums in the whole world. In different parts of the world it’s celebrated in different days: in US it’s second Sunday of May, in Poland it’s 26th of May but here in UK and Ireland it’s celebrated on fourth Sunday of March. But regardless time and place it’s a day to show how much we value and appreciate their hard work. We give them cards, Mother’s Day gifts or simply buy flowers. A little acts of kindness is all that matters after all.

So today I want to share with you this beautiful fun fold card for Mother’s Day. It’s quick and easy to make and you really don’t need many supplies to make one.

mother's love 6

To make this card you need  half of A4 piece of card stock (cut in half on long side) folded in half. I’ve used Strawberry Slush. Then you cut front panel of the card in half. This is our base.

mother's love

You will also need three pieces of whisper white card stock. For inside of the card you need a piece that measures 5 5/8 x 4″. And two smaller pieces for the front panels: both measure 4 x 2 3/4″. One of them I run through the Big Shot with Happy Heart Embossing Folder and slightly sponged embossed part with Pistachio Pudding ink.

mother's love 1

On second panel I stamped a this fun flower. It’s double step stamp, so for the first step I used Basic Black ink, and for second step Strawberry Slush and Pistachio Pudding. Both, flower and sentiment comes from Mum’s Love stamp set. Don’t you just love this sentiment and artful font? 🙂

mother's love 3

This stamp set has a coordinating sentiment for the inside of the card and it’s amazing: “…and no mum deserves more love than you…” – Isn’t it beautiful? Now it’s time to asseble the card.

mother's love 8

This little flower looks so cute 🙂

mother's love 4

…hmmm..I think there’s something missing…so I stamped inside few mini flowers from same stamp set.

mother's love 9

I just love how this card turned out! So simply to make yet so effective and cheery 🙂 I hope you like this project.

Thank you for stopping by.
